ABOUT ALOHAMONDAYS
As a concept, “Aloha Mondays” came together when Chef Kanoa Miura was an art student at the University of Hawaii-Hilo and began his culinary career at his first restaurant cleaning fish. Monday being his only day off, Kanoa decided to invite his friends over to celebrate “Aloha Monday,” instead of the traditional “Aloha Friday,” signaling the end of a long work week. Chef Kanoa further expanded his culinary experience working at Roy’s Waikoloa on the Big Island and The Flying Fish in Seattle. Alohamondays grew from a weekly college get-together into a successful business with Chef Kanoa’s creativity, passion and natural talent.
In 2005, Chef Kanoa’s catering dreams took root after cooking for his guests at his own wedding reception with the help of his chef friends. Today, Alohamondays is a full-service catering company that also offers lunch and dinner takeout featuring a fresh, seasonal menu that changes weekly. Chef Kanoa regularly invents new dishes to add to Alohamondays’ weekly and catering menus, creating innovative flavors using the freshest, locally-grown ingredients.
Chef Kanoa’s personality thrives from being a part of Hilo’s community, knowing about the best products and the people behind them, supporting local businesses and charities, and most of all treating customers and vendors as ‘ohana.
The Alohamondays Crew is a small group of individuals all from the Big Island. Whether long time friends, or introduced by family they are all connected and integrated within each others lives, sharing the Hilo lifestyle and heart.
